A Lot of Medway Housing Is Older Than the Idea of a Damp Course
Terraced and Victorian housing across Chatham, Rochester and Gillingham often has either a slate course that has broken down, or nothing at all.
Even where a damp course exists it can be bridged, which means water gets a path around it. Raised patios, render taken down too low, debris in a cavity and flower beds against the wall all do it, and the wall goes damp with a perfectly good DPC in place.
We Confirm the DPC Is Actually the Problem
We check the height and pattern of the damp, look for salting and a tide mark, and inspect the outside for bridging and for water coming from above.
We only quote for a new damp course when the evidence points at the damp course. If the wall is wet because a downpipe is split, injecting it would be pointless.

What is a damp proof course?
It is a barrier built into a wall near the bottom that stops ground moisture rising up through the brickwork. Older properties may have a slate one that has broken down, or none at all.
How do I know if mine has failed?
The usual sign is damp at a fairly even height along the bottom of a wall, often with a tide mark and salting, and plaster that blows. We confirm it at the survey rather than assuming.
Is injection a permanent fix?
It is a long term fix when the diagnosis is right and the cause is genuinely a failed course. It is covered by the ten year insurance backed guarantee.
Will you need to take up my floors?
Sometimes, depending on the construction and where the damp is. We will tell you before we start what needs to come out.
How long before I can decorate?
New plaster needs to dry before it is painted, and the drying time depends on thickness and conditions. We will give you a timescale, because decorating too early is the most common reason a finish fails.
