The Houses in Chatham, and What Goes Wrong With Them

Chatham is where we are based and where a lot of our work is. The town is dense with Victorian and interwar terraces, and a good number have cellars, which is why we do as much damp and tanking here as roofing. The terraced roofs tend to share valleys and party walls with the house next door, so a repair often needs a word with a neighbour, and we are used to arranging that. The other Chatham pattern is original slate roofs that are now well past their span, with the old torching crumbling and the slates slipping one winter at a time. On those, a re-roof with a modern breathable membrane usually ends the run of repairs for good.
