Anticc carries out exterior rendering and render repairs across Chatham, the Medway towns and Kent. We remove failed render back to sound background, deal with the reason it failed, and re-render in a system suited to the wall. Because failed render is a common cause of penetrating damp, we check inside as well as out. All work carries a ten year insurance backed guarantee.
Render Fails Quietly, Then All at Once
A hairline crack or a hollow sounding patch does not look urgent. Water gets behind it, freezes, and pushes more render off, and now you have a damp wall inside as well as a patch outside.
Rendering straight over the top of that is the classic shortcut. It sticks to a background that is already failing, and it comes off again.
We Find Out Why It Failed First
We check the render by tapping it to find where it has lost its bond, and we look at the reason. Movement, water from a split downpipe, a failed roofline, or the wrong mix on a solid wall.
We also check inside for damp, because if the wall is wet the new render has to go on a wall that can dry.
Then we quote for taking off what has failed, fixing the cause and re-rendering.

Can you render over the old render?
Not if the old render has lost its bond. New render on a failing background fails too. Where the existing render is sound we can work with it, and we will tell you which you have.
Is cracked render causing my damp?
It often is. Cracks and hollow areas let water sit behind the render, and it then shows up inside as penetrating damp. We check both sides of the wall.
Do I need to paint it afterwards?
Not with a through coloured silicone or acrylic render, which is one of the reasons people choose them. Traditional sand and cement render normally needs painting.
My house is old and solid walled. Does that matter?
Yes, it matters a lot. A solid wall needs to breathe, and sealing it with the wrong render traps moisture. We will specify a breathable system where that is the right answer.
How long does rendering take?
It depends on the area, the access and the weather, since render needs suitable conditions to cure. You get a timeline with the quote.
