We recently completed a full roof replacement for a property in Rochester, upgrading the existing roof while maintaining the same style of tiles to preserve the home's original character. This project combined traditional aesthetics with modern, maintenance-free roofing solutions.
The existing roof was beginning to show signs of age, with worn tiles and mortar deterioration around the ridge and verge lines. The homeowner wanted a durable replacement that would enhance the roof's weather protection without altering its familiar appearance.
Scope of Works
1. Roof Strip & Preparation: We began by carefully removing the old roof covering and inspecting the timber structure beneath. Once confirmed sound, we installed new breatheable underlay and treated battens to provides a strong, ventilated base for the tiles.
2. Re-Using Matching Roof Tiles: To keep the property's classic look consistent, we replaced damaged tiles with matching ones and reinstalled the originals where possible. This ensured a seamless finish that blends perfectly with the surrounding homes.
3. Dry Verge & Dry Ridge Installation: The ridge and verge areas were upgraded to a dry-fix system, offering a long-lasting, mortar-free solution. These systems improve ventilation, resist storm damage, and eliminate the need for future repointing or maintenance.
4. Leadwork & Finishing Touches: We renewed the lead flashing along adjoining walls and chimneys to maintain watertight protection, completing the installation to our usual high standards.
Project Outcome
The finished roofs looks clean, strong, and traditional - but with the benefit of modern dry verge and ridge technology for improved durability and weather resistance. The homeowners now have a low maintenance, watertight roof that will protect their property for many years to come.
